EXCLUSIVE: Israel‘s Girl from Oslo director Ofir Lobel has signed for representation with LA outfit Black Box Management.
Lobel, whose credits include Blackspace and Trust No One, is looking to push further into the international space by signing with the Hollywood management company, which is run by former CAA and WME agents Mike Dill and Lowell Shapiro.
Lobel is about to head to Greece to start production on Season 2 of Netflix‘s The Girl from Oslo, which is co-produced for Israel’s Hot and Norway’s TV2. The series tells the story of a young Norwegian girl and two Israeli friends who are kidnapped by terrorists and threatened with death unless 12 prisoners are released.
Elsewhere, the auteur recently co-created and directed all episodes of Keshet‘s Trust No One, starring Yehuda Levi, which tells the story of the youngest-ever director of the Israel Security Agency facing a cyber security leak of one of its top agents. And he also co-created and directed BlackSpace about an ordinary morning at a small-town High School turned into a nightmare when anonymous figures in masks committed a massacre leaving four dead students.
Lobel used to direct on Eretz Nehederet, the Israeli version of SNL, and recently returned to helm some episodes of the show following the October 7 massacre.
After October 7, Dill and Shapiro said “the need to expose many of these creators’ work outside of Israel took on a new meaning for us.”
“We want to show Israeli creators that there is support for them and their work,” they added. “The Israeli film and TV industry has come a long way in a very short amount of time, and we want to make sure that the artists behind these great series and films are expanding their opportunities on an international level at all times.”
The pair added that Lobel is “creating and directing some of the most exciting series in global television.”
He will continue to be repped for Israel and Europe by Tel Aviv’s Shaked & Perri. Black Box has a partnership with Shaked & Perri, whereby the pair share information, resources, and certain clients.
